System Upgrades Increase Reliability

In addition to normal maintenance and installation of new services, Linn County REC has a work plan to improve system reliability. The work plan addresses anticipated or existing growth and the replacement of older lines, equipment or substations. During 2017, Linn County REC will complete approximately $8 million dollars worth of system improvements.

Line construction projects will take place in the Tiffin, NW Cedar Rapids, Robins, North Liberty, Swisher, and NE Marion areas. These scheduled projects will replace aging infrastructure and accommodate load growth.

One new substation is currently under construction on the west side of Cedar Rapids and a second new substation will be started in the east North Liberty area with completion expected in early 2018. Two other substations are also being readied for 69 kV conversions.
