Geothermal Heat Pump

geothermal unit being installed in the groundA geothermal heat pump is the most efficient, earth friendly heating and cooling system available on the market today. It is an electrically powered system that takes advantage of the earth’s naturally stable ground temperature to provide heating, cooling and hot water for home and commercial buildings.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy rank geothermal technology as the most efficient and environmentally safe heating and cooling option available.

Linn County REC offers the following incentives for geothermal heat pumps:

  • Closed Loop System = $350 per ton for units up to 20 tons of capacity, on initial installations. Please contact us for incentives on larger units. Average incentives for 2000 square foot homes range from $1400-$1750.
  • Open Loop System (no "pump and dump") = $350 per ton for units up to 20 tons of capacity, on initial installations.
  • Heat Pump Unit Replacement = $150 per ton.
  • Compressor Replacement = $100 per unit.

All new units or replacement units must be pre-approved by Linn County REC by having the heat pump contractor submit the Notification Form to Dave Gilmore. Please contact Member Services for more information on pre-approval.
