Green Energy
Linn County REC is committed to delivering power that is safe, reliable, environmentally responsible and affordable.
Emerging Energy: Our renewable energy program allows members to purchase block(s) of Iowa renewable (wind) energy for $2.00 per block. Once purchased, wind generated electricity enters Iowa's electric grid on your behalf. This reduces the need for energy produced from other sources.
Energy Efficiency Incentives: We encourage the efficient use of electricity by offering incentives to our residential, commercial and agriculture members. Visit our incentives section to download forms with complete terms and conditions.
Recycling: Our Pull The Plug program gives an incentive to members who recycle their old, working, inefficient appliances (refrigerator-$35, freezer-$25, window air conditioner-$25) by having our recycling contractor pick up and dispose of it properly.
Energy Evaluation: Our energy evaluation program includes steps that can assess how much energy your home, farm or business is using. This program will assist you by suggesting measures you can take to make it more energy efficient.
Presentation: The "Energy Efficiency...What's It All About" presentation is free to local schools and is designed for 6th through 8th grades. We introduce the topics of energy efficiency and renewable energy to students in hopes they will incorporate these concepts into their everyday lives.
REC-CONNECTION: Sign up for our electronic newsletter and receive a monthly email that is full of timely energy efficiency and environmental tips. Preview before you sign up.
Solar (Photovoltaic) Energy: We are educating the next generation about renewable energy by sponsoring the installation of two solar arrays at Linn Mar's Oakridge school. This site provides real-time data on the electricity production of this green energy system.
