Holiday Safety
Remember these safety tips during the holiday season.
When putting up outdoor lights or decorations, stay away from overhead power lines.
- Do not string too many lights together.
- Never overload your electric outlets.
- Keep lights and electrical cords away from water.
- Buy a fresh Christmas tree. If the needles are falling off, the tree is too dry and should not be purchased.
- Keep your tree away from heat sources, sparks or flames.
- Check and replace worn, frayed or damaged cords, light sets or wires. Use only UL listed equipment.
- Never burn wrappings in a fireplace or wood stove.
- Use only non-combustible decorations.
- Do not leave Christmas tree lights on unattended.
- All circuits should be protected by the proper fuse and appropriately matched to the appliances being utilized.
- Never use candles or open flame devices on the Christmas tree.
- Unplug cords when you string lights.
- Never leave burning candles unattended.
- Never use indoor lights outside.
- Check all smoke and CO detectors to make sure they are working properly.
