Linn County REC Announces Scholarship Program

Linn County REC offers six $1,000 scholarships every year for graduating high school seniors enrolled full-time at an accredited college, university or vocational/technical school for the following school year. We have awarded $82,000 in college scholarships to our members since our program began in 1994.

The scholarship program is announced in our January issue of the Electri-CONNECTION newsletter. Prospective students may call to request an application form or visit this site again once the scholarship application period has been announced.

Congratulations to these 2008-2009 scholarship recipeints:

These students will receive a $1,000 scholarship towards a Bachelor’s degree to the school of their choice:

Katherine Hanson, North Liberty, will attend the University of Iowa and major in journalism and mass communications.

McKenzie Funk, Solon, will attend the Reed College and major in classics.

Sara Gardner, Central City, is considering several universities and is an undecided major.

Lydia Jorgensen, Marion, will attend the University of Northern Iowa and major in secondary mathematics education.

Rachel Stevenson, Cedar Rapids, will attend the University of Iowa and major in english.

Chris Miller, Swisher, will attend Iowa State University and major in engineering/medicine.

This student will receive a $500 scholarship towards an Associate’s degree to the school of his choice:

Isaac Proffitt, Solon, will attend Kirkwood Community College and major in human services.
