ENERGY STAR® Appliances

ENERGY STAR® offers businesses and consumers energy efficient solutions -- helping to save money while protecting the environment for future generations. If all consumers, businesses, and organizations in the United States made their product choices and building improvement decisions with ENERGY STAR® over the next decade, the national annual energy bill would be reduced by about $200 billion. With that would come a sizable contribution to reducing air pollution and protecting the earth’s climate for future generations. Money isn’t all you’re saving with ENERGY STAR®.

ENERGY STAR® was introduced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1992 as a voluntary labeling program designed to identify and promote energy-efficient products, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. EPA partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy in 1996 to promote the ENERGY STAR® label, with each agency taking responsibility for particular product categories. ENERGY STAR® has expanded to cover new homes, most of the building sector, residential heating and cooling equipment, major appliances, office equipment, lighting, consumer electronics, and more product areas.

Linn County REC has changed its incentive criteria for Energy Star clothes washers and dishwashers for 2009.  In the past the criteria included having to have electric domestic water heating.  (This is due to the energy savings coming from heating the hot water.)  New for 2009 we have removed that requirement, so that if you purchase a new Energy Star clothes washer or dishwasher, regardless of the type of water heater you have, you can earn a $25 incentive.  However, if you also do have electric domestic water heating, you can earn an additional incentive bonus of $25 for a total of $50 per unit.

All equipment must be ENERGY STAR® labeled.
